Two boys plead not guilty to murder of Bolton schoolboy Reece Tansey

Two boys accused of murdering schoolboy Reece Tansey have pleaded not guilty in court today.

A plea hearing at Manchester Crown Court today (July 30) saw the two accused boys, both aged 15, one from Bolton and another from Farnworth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, plead not guilty to the charge of murdering 15-year-old Reece Tansey on May 4 this year over a video link.

Judge Alan Conrad QC set a pre-trial review for September 16 this year before the case goes to trial on October 18.

Tributes flooded in to Reece immediately after his death in the early hours of May 4 this year.

Reece’s family described him as “cheeky and funny. He had a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile.

“Reece had an ability to make you smile and it was often difficult to be serious with him. He was at an age where he was starting to find his way in life, and become his own person, but he always needed his mum and adored her and the rest of his family.”

Harper Green school, where he attended, added: “The school community is shocked and saddened by this terrible news and our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“For a life to be ended at such a young age is a total tragedy."

Police were called to Walker Avenue, Great Lever, around 4.43am to reports of a stabbing. Reece, 15, a Harper Green High student, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Prosecuting for the crown is Charlotte Crangle, with Richard Simons and Rebecca Filletti defending the accused.
