    Team stats (Cats-Giants): Disposals 151-153, inside-50s 25-22, free kicks 12-6, stoppages 24-12, clearances 16-16, contested possessions 54-63, turnovers 30-29, marks 46-35, tackles 29-34, one percenters 13-21.

Disposals are even, as are inside-50s, but the Giants have won more contested possessions and have registered more one percenters than the Cats, showing how much tonight means to them.

They aso lead the tackle count by five and have evened the Cats in the clearances despite the overwhelming hitout count.

    Geelong Cats 1.3, 3.9 (27)

    GWS Giants 5.3, 7.4 (46)

The Giants have been very disciplined with their game plan tonight. Tom Stewart, who is the backbone of the Cats’ defence, has not taken one intercept mark tonight, showing how calculated the Giants are moving the football. They’ve been sound defensively, keeping the Cats’ second tier forwards at bay, while Toby Greene has two goals and has been dangerous up forward for the visitors. Patrick Dangerfield has been subbed out and sent to hospital with a throat injury.

Leading disposals: Tim Taranto (16), Cam Guthrie (15), Isaac Cumming (14), Joel Selwood (14), Jed Bews (13), Nick Haynes (13)

Goals: Cats: Jake Kolodjashnij, Mark Blicavs, Tom Hawkins. Giants: Toby Greene 2, Harry Himmelberg, Matt Buntine, Callum Brown, Zach Sproule, Tim Taranto

Brad Close has had just one disposal, Esava Ratugolea has had two and hasn’t taken a mark while Gary Rohan has also had just two touches.

They’re three guys that can really play a role if Geelong are to find their best footy tonight.

Cameron Guthrie has been busy with 15 disposals, Joel Selwood has 13.

    Cats 3.8 (26), Giants 7.4 (46)

He looks a bit proppy still, Gary Rohan, but he’s back on the ground which is a good sign.

The Cats wouldn’t take many risks with a guy like Rohan, who has had his share of injuries.

Meanwhile, Geelong have confirmed that Patrick Dangerfield has gone to hospital after he copped an elbow to the throat when attempting to tackle star Giant Toby Greene. The MRO will look at Greene’s action as he lifted his right forearm as Dangerfield rushed in to tackle.

Tim Taranto has snapped his side’s sixth goal to maintain their breathing space in the margin at 17 points.

Gary Rohan is still undergoing a fitness test.

The game opened up a bit more in that passage of play, with a turnover from Sam Menegola at the Cats’ half-forward flank allowing Nick Haynes to start the chain.

In fact, the Giants have just kicked another. Toby Greene has two.

    Cats 3.5 (23), Giants 7.4 (46)

Gary Rohan is sore, either testing his hamstring or groin on the bench.

He’s talking to physios at the moment, after getting some work done in the past few minutes.

The Cats have already subbed out Patrick Dangerfield, who has been taken to hospital after a high fend off hit him in the throat.

Two in a row for the Cats and Tom Hawkins has kicked his 650th career goal.

He sits 28th on the all-time list and fourth of the current AFL players, behind Lance Franklin (985), Jack Riewoldt (709) and Josh Kennedy (681).

Eddie Betts is 29th on the list on 637 goals.

Mark Blicavs has kicked his side’s first goal in more than 37 minutes after being awarded a 50-metre penalty.

Brent Daniels ran through the mark when Blicavs had the ball on the wing. He argued he was following opponent Jed Bews but the umpire said he wasn’t within two metres of Bews. But it was a pretty blatant 50.

Blicavs was taken to 30 metres out and he converted.

    Cats 2.4 (16), Giants 5.4 (34)

Channel 7 commentator Matthew Richardson reporting that Patrick Dangerfield is heading to hospital to be assessed for a throat injury, suffered in a high fend off.
