Real estate agents are reporting an increasing number of sight unseen property sales during Melbourneâs sixth lockdown.

âIf you had asked me three years ago, thereâs no way I wouldâve bought a property without seeing it,â said Nikki, who does not want to disclose her surname or the price she paid for her new home.
Many buyers are in a similar situation.
David Gigliotti, a sales manager at Moonee Valley Real Estate has sold 14 properties sight unseen during Melbourneâs latest lockdown.
This week he sold a three-bedroom house in Keilor East that faced a railway and factory for $975,000, more than $140,000 above its reserve. The property sold a week after it was listed and just four hours after the contract was emailed to 27 prospective buyers.
âThere was no time for lawyers to look over the contract,â Mr Gigliotti said.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Hugh McDowell said the temperatures were well above average, but not unusual for this time of year.
âI wouldnât say itâs unseasonable,â he said. âIn spring we do see these high temperatures.â
Clear skies and warm weather will persist on Sunday, with temperatures in Sydney forecast in the high 20s, thanks to north-westerly winds.
Bondi and Coogee beaches were both packed with sunbathers, mostly unmasked, who worked on their tans while attracting the ire of some social media users.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard defended beachgoers at the daily COVID-19 press conference, saying he was more concerned about unvaccinated people than large crowds gathering along Sydneyâs coast.
âI think that the fresh air, we know that it is the safest place to be at the present time,â he said.
âBut I would say to people who are out and about to maintain your social distance and to just be careful.

The Melbourne Youth Justice Precinct in Parkville has been listed as a tier two exposure site after a staff member tested positive on September 10. All staff identified as close contacts are now being furloughed.
A Justice Department spokeswoman said operations at the facility were expected to continue unaffected âat this stageâ.

The venues, owned by Marriner Group and operated by mogul Jason Marriner, filed a lawsuit at the beginning of September against Ansvar Insurance asking the court to grant them $20,403,965 to cover all venues under their business interruption insurance policy.
Ansvar has not filed a defence but other insurers have claimed that business interruption policies were not supposed to apply to pandemics, and were instead designed for events like blackouts and floods.
The Princess Theatre put hit show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on hold due to COVID restrictions.
An excerpt from the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regionsâ economic audit of the showâs first year estimated the annual benefit to be $244 million.

Labor senator Kristina Keneally has hit back at suggestions that her being parachuted into the safe seat of Fowler is a blow to diversity and vowed she will fight for the local community.
Senator Keneally on Friday confirmed she would switch from the Senate to the culturally diverse lower house seat, after months of internal tensions over whether she or fellow Senator Deb OâNeill would be selected first on the ticket, rather than in the difficult-to-win third spot on the ticket.
There has been disquiet of Senator Keneallyâs move, with retiring MP Chris Hayes known to favour lawyer Tu Le, a daughter of Vietnamese refugees, to replace him.
On Saturday, Labor MP Anne Aly, the first Muslim woman elected to Federal Parliament, told the ABC that âLabor needs to do better on diversity...this is a huge failure for Labor when it comes to diversity and inclusionâ.

But Senator Keneally â" who currently lives more than 40km away on exclusive Scotland Island â" hit back at criticism that her being parachuted into the seat was not appropriate for the seat of Fowler.
âIâm proud to be part of a party that gets cultural diversity. And let me take this head on because Iâm a little bit disappointed in some of the media coverage here. If you look across south-western Sydney youâve got MPs Ed Husic, Michelle Rowland, Mike Freelander,â she said, as well as a number of state MPs from culturally diverse backgrounds.
âIâm proud to be part of a party that supports gender diversity and that supports multicultural diversity.â
âThis is a community I will live in, I will love and I will represent. I know how to fight for communities like this itâs why Iâve gone into politics. And that is why, come the next election, I want to go into the House of Representatives, as the voice of every family, every small business, every faith community in Fowler and stand up for them in every possible way.â
Within the NSW Right faction, frontbencher Chris Bowen is said to have been backing Ms Keneally while fellow powerbroker Tony Burke is understood to have been backing Ms Le.
Senator Keneally is also a long-time ally of Labor leader Anthony Albanese, who backed her in on Saturday for the seat of Fowler.
âWe will have strong candidates in all seats, be that held seats, but importantly, weâll have strong candidates in our seats across the board. And I look at Laborâs team and the team that I lead and what I see is a diverse team. Just across where weâre standing here, in fact, our local member is Linda Burney, the first Indigenous woman elected to the House of Representatives,â he said.
âIâm very proud to lead a diverse team, an effective team, and a team that will be able to lead our nation through.â
