Man charged after death of six-year-old in Gippsland buggy rollover

A man has been charged after a six-year-old girl died when a buggy she and six other children were travelling on rolled in Gippsland on Saturday.

Damien Gibson, 33 from Rosedale, 25 kilometres east of Traralgon, has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury.

Police allege he was driving the off-road buggy when it rolled in a paddock in Rosedale, just after 4pm.

Mr Gibson appeared at the Sale Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The six-year-old was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

A four-year-old girl was also airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Five other children were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Ambulance Victoria, a 33-year-old sustained an arm injury and was taken to Latrobe Regional Hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.
