Swinton houses evacuated after WW2 era bomb found in garden
People had to be evacuated from a residential area after a Second World War bomb was found in a garden.
The 'WW2 era' bomb was found in a garden in Moss Lane, Swinton, with surrounding residents immediately evacuated, the fire service have said.
Local residents who were not evacuated were asked to stay inside and away from windows.
The device has now been declared safe by the emergency services.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The device that caused this incident has been assessed by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and declared safe.
"The incident is stood down and we'll be packed up and out of the way soon All previous advice is lifted.
"Thanks everybody for your help this afternoon.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called at around 11.30am today (Sunday 31 October) following reports of a suspicious object on Moss Lane in Swinton.
"A cordon was put in place as a safety precaution and a number of residential buildings were evacuated.
"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was notified and after assessing the item, declared it safe."
