All Hawks players have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and most had already had two jabs, but it is unknown if Maginess has had one or two jabs. The club declines to comments on individual players’ vaccination status.

Maginness attended the club’s Waverley Park facility on Monday but did not have any symptoms until Tuesday morning.

He immediately went to be tested, notified the club doctor and isolated. He has only very mild COVID-19 symptoms and will now quarantine in line with the AFL and Victorian government’s quarantine protocols.

The club went through Maginess’ movements at the club to determine his close contacts and who needed to be tested and isolate. A handful of players was then ordered to get tested and stay away from the club.

The son of former player Scott Maginness, the 20-year-old has played two games in his first two seasons with the club.

Chief executive officer Justin Reeves said Maginness  was an example of the system and protocols working as they should.

“I want to commend Finn for his diligence in getting a test at the first sign of symptoms, informing our club doctor and protecting his teammates and our staff. As a club we are taking every precaution to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and the broader community is maintained,” Reeves said.

“Appropriate wellbeing supports have been put in place to support Finn and those who are isolating as a result of this case.

“Every staff member and player that needs to be tested is being tested, and the clear processes the club and AFL have in place has ensured that those who need to isolate are isolating.

“Football clubs are no different to rest of the community, and these kinds of situations will continue to occur as our community continues to open up. This highlights the importance of being vaccinated and getting tested as soon as you have any symptoms.”
